Ever forget to care for yourself?

We can all get overwhelmed with busy schedules, and may put ourselves on the back burner. But what does that mean for our health? Well for people with diabetes, it could mean uncontrolled blood sugars. And uncontrolled blood sugars can mean some unwanted health complications–which may happen sooner rather than later. So it’s time to put yourself first! Here are simple ways to care for yourself, that could make a big difference in your health.

Keep Your Doctors Appointments

This is so important. According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), individuals should have at least two appointments each year with their diabetes doctor for a check up. This increases to four times per year if a person’s A1c is not at goal. But how are you supposed to remember your appointments, along with everything else going on in your life? My Diabetes Home can help! The “MyCare” feature allows users to keep track of their appointments from a single dashboard. Adding an appointment allows you to keep track of your doctor, time, date, and location of the appointment. It also provides an amazing pre-visit checklist, which includes a medication list as well as blood sugar logs for your provider. Getting ready for your appointment has never been easier! For before, during and after your appointment there is also the Visit Optimizer. This is a guide for both you and your doctor–complete with sugars, questions, visit summary, sugar logs, medications, and much more! Go check it out for yourself.

Track your Progress

This is often the hardest part of managing diabetes. Not only do you have to check blood sugars but you also have to record those blood sugars. Although this seems like a chore at times, it can make a HUGE difference for your health. Did you know that checking sugars at different times of the day can help your doctor know what medications need adjusting? It is also another indication on how well you are managing your diabetes. My Diabetes Home can help here as well! Not only do we provide easy input of blood sugars, we also keep track of your activity by allowing you to connect your FitBit or smart watch. Get more from your activity tracker by connecting them to My Diabetes Home! See all of this data combined in one report – the Visit Optimizer!

Know when you need help

None of us really like admitting we may need help at times. However, reaching out can make things a lot easier. Choose a friend, family member, coworker, really anyone to be a go-to whenever you are feeling like you need a pick-me-up. Some may even consider seeing a counselor or therapist. Let’s face it, having someone to talk to can help tremendously in relieving stress and aiding with self-care.    Speaking of help, My Diabetes Home has a feature for any questions or concerns you have about the site. It is located under the “Help” tab. Simply put in your email address, subject, and description of your question, and we will respond in a timely manner!     DISCLAIMER: This is for educational purposes only and not intended as medical advice.
